We’ve partnered with nearly 250 schools around the country, volunteered our time and talents to our neighbors in need and developed cutting-edge technology to move the industry forward. As an industry leader in employee tenure, we’re proud of the work we do each day.


California Our Pleasanton facility partnered with Altamont Elementary School to kick-off the school year with an anti-bullying campaign. To start the school year, Vulcan provided hand-picked rocks for each student to paint. The rocks were added to a rock garden in the atrium of the school to celebrate the uniqueness of each student at the school.

Mountain West

Phoenix, Arizona Employees rallied together to raise over $15,000 in support of the American Heart Association’s Heart Health Awareness Month. In addition to raising money, employees participated in a group walk, wore red to show their support and shared heart healthy tips.


Scholar Athlete - TexasEach week during the 2016 football season, high school students who excelled in academic studies and sports were highlighted on Sinclair Broadcast Group’s local media stations as “Vulcan Materials Company Scholar of the Week.” At the end of the season, one student was named 2016 Vulcan Materials Scholar Athlete and received a $10,000 scholarship from Vulcan and Sinclair.


Naperville, Illinois Vulcan employees served as guest speakers at Crone Middle School in Naperville, Illinois, in support of the school’s STEM (Science, technology, engineering and mathematics) program. Operations personnel from the Bolingbrook Quarry explained the significance of aggregate mining to society and nation infrastructure. From rocks and minerals to earth science, the students engaged in experiments using a mini jaw crusher, taking big rocks and making them into little rocks and then screening out various sizes of rocks.

Southern & Gulf Coast

Tarrant, Alabama Dolcito Quarry hosted infield training for Birmingham-area firefighters, including the use of a former rental house on the quarry property. Firefighters from Hueytown, Jacksonville, Pleasant Grove, Birmingham, Leeds, Center Point, Mountain Brook, and all suburbs of Birmingham were in attendance for the accredited training.


Winston-Salem, North Carolina After many decades of providing jobs and critical building materials that helped build Winston-Salem, Vulcan’s former Piedmont Quarry has been reclaimed and is now a public park. Named Quarry Park, Vulcan donated the property containing 165 acres to the city. The park offers spectacular views of the city skyline and water-filled quarry.


Melrose, Florida Vulcan and the St. Johns River Water Management District celebrated the completion of a well conversion project in Putnam County that will benefit Clay-Putnam minimum flows and levels (MFLs) while meeting the needs of the Grandin Sand Plant in producing vital construction materials for northeast Florida.

The $985,000 private-public partnership investment converts the plant’s water source from the Upper Floridan aquifer to the Lower Floridan aquifer. The project included construction of a Lower Floridan aquifer production well and a Lower Floridan aquifer monitoring well, which allows for additional data collection.

Vulcan’s Grandin Sand Plant provides construction aggregates that form the building blocks for Northeast Florida’s roads, bridges, homes and more.


Mexico This year marked the 6th anniversary of the Calica Quarry’s Volunteer Program. 252 employees and family members volunteered in 19 community events and gave over 54,000 hours of service.
