A 30+ Year Partnership with the Cahaba River Society

The Cahaba River Society works to protect the longest free-flowing river in the State of Alabama and is the primary drinking water source for one-fifth of the state’s population. Smithsonian Magazine has singled out the Cahaba River as one of the most biologically rich rivers in the United States, with more fish species than any other river in North America.  The mission of the Cahaba River Society is to restore and protect the Cahaba River watershed and its rich diversity of life.

Reclamation For Economic Development

The Irwindale Business Center in Irwindale, California was a former Vulcan facility that is benefitting the City and community through a unique partnership. When Vulcan completed mining operations there in the late 1960s, discussion turned to future uses. The City decided to fill the mining pit and transform the land into the Irwindale Business Center, which today provides thousands of jobs and generates revenue and economic activity benefiting Southern California communities.

Wildlife Habitat Council Recognizes Vulcan's Azusa Facility

Vulcan’s Azusa Rock Quarry won the 2019 Other Habitats Project Award, given by the Wildlife Habitat Council (WHC) for the company’s ongoing commitment to manage chaparral and coastal sage scrub habitat at its Azusa, California site, east of Los Angeles. The program included reclaiming the severe, steep slopes and previously reclaimed large benches of the 100+ year old quarry.

Protecting Species and Ecosystems in Quintana Roo

The Yucatán Peninsula is home to an estimated 2,000 jaguars, almost half the entire jaguar population in Mexico.  The majority of these magnificent animals live within the Mexican Caribbean Biosphere Reserve.  In the preliminary phase of this part of our Environmental Strategy project, four jaguars have been photo-identified: two adult females, one adult male and one young male.
