Statement on Inclusion & Diversity

June, 2020

Dear Friend,

Intolerance and racism have no place in our world. The recent events that, once again, exposed racism and raised such heartfelt anger and fear across our country underscore the urgent need to address the fundamental causes of these incidents.

Diversity and inclusion are important values of The Vulcan Way. At work and at home, all of our employees are expected to acknowledge, respect, value and embrace people of different backgrounds and perspectives.

While we have made progress, we have a lot of work to do. In 2015, we launched our Diversity and Inclusion Council to create an open workplace where everyone, regardless of background, race, or other factors is free to contribute and grow. Last year, we signed the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™ pledge and we forged a long-term partnership with Historically Black Colleges and Universities to support our future leaders in our communities and on our team.

We will fight racism and promote social justice. As a company, we are committed to doing the right thing. In this case that means taking action. We are committed to helping the communities we serve rebuild and heal spiritually and physically—as individuals, groups and as an entire organization.

As individuals, each of us needs to listen, to learn and to value and embrace diversity and inclusion. In order for us to heal and rebuild our communities, we need to have conversations with one another. And in doing so, we need to have the respect, patience and the grace, to listen… and to better understand how others hear our words.

We firmly believe that our Vulcan family will be on the right side of justice, fairness, and equality. We will also be on the right side of history. In doing so, we will strengthen our people, our communities and our company.

Working together we will be stronger.
