When It Rains It Stores!

That’s McCook Reservoir Stage 1 on the right, holding 3.5 billion gallons. In partnership with @mwrd, we’re mining Stage 2, which will hold another 6.5 billion gallons. The reservoir, which is one of the country’s largest public works projects for pollution and flood control, again played a vital role when record-setting rains recently hit the Chicago area. A partnership with Appalachian State University Department of Geological & Environmental Sciences resulted in funding the makeover of a Winnebago. Transforming into the "Geobago," this mobile classroom will be used across North Carolina.

San Antonio Fire Department Tours Huebner Quarry

In March 2017, 40 first responders from San Antonio Fire Department took a tour and discussed safety protocols with Vulcan employees, such as confined space concerns and practice rescues that could help in the event of a crisis.

Food Pantry Donations Help The Hungry

A donation of 50 turkeys and approximately 1,000 pounds of canned goods was given to the 7th Street Food Pantry. In addition to the food drive, the Vulcan Foundation contributed funds toward the purchase of commercial freezers which will allow the Pantry to better serve the community.

A Rockin’ Experience

More than 130 first graders from Manteno Elementary School took a bus tour through the facility and stopped by stations where they met with experts to learn about mining and the environment.

Rescue Drills at North Quarry

Winston-Salem Fire Station #14 crew was welcomed in for a rescue drill. Members of the WSFD worked with Vulcan’s rescue crew to reenact emergency rescue scenarios for learning and practice.

Raising Money For The Exceptional Foundation

Staff Accountant Tiffany Turner participated in the 13th Annual Chili Cook-Off benefiting The Exceptional Foundation. Tiffany’s recipe won as a fan favorite among her colleagues and was used at the Cookoff. More than 120 teams competed.

Career on Wheels

Frank Madla Elementary School in San Antonio, Texas hosted a Career on Wheels Day for kids to learn about a number of professions. Ready mix driver Mario Luna brought his truck along to teach kids all about concrete.

Hosting a fish fry event each year showcases appreciation towards the community and customers. Over 250 customers, neighbors, and community leaders come to the quarry to enjoy a delicious fish fry lunch!
