Carbon Removal Mitigates Climate Change

We’re proud to partner with CarbonCure Technologies, who was highlighted in a recent CNBC story about the growing demand for carbon removal to mitigate climate change. The CNBC crew filmed this segment with our Central Concrete team in San Jose, CA, to see the technology in action. CarbonCure injects captured CO2 into concrete mixes, which permanently stores the CO2, and has the added benefit of making the concrete stronger. Increased strength means concrete producers can use less cement in their mixes, which helps make the industrial process greener.

The World Games 2022 to reduce carbon impact with renewable energy certificates

The World Games 2022 in Birmingham is reducing its carbon impact by purchasing solar renewable energy certificates (RECs). The RECs supporting the games represent 2 million kilowatt-hours of carbon-free energy produced at Alabama Power’s solar facility at the Anniston Army Depot. “As The World Games begin in Birmingham this week, we are pleased to announce that renewable energy certificates are among the ways we are ensuring this event achieves its sustainability goals, while also supporting renewable resources right here in Alabama,” said Nick Sellers, CEO of The World Games 2022.

SAC-TUN Tree Nursery provides trees for reforestation

SAC-TUN, our operation near Playa del Carmen, Mexico, created an on-site tree nursery in 1990 that currently produces 23 native species including four endangered species that are protected by Mexican wildlife legislation. The team uses the nursery trees for reforestation and reclamation.

Mitigation Bank & Reclamation Efforts

A mitigation or conservation bank provides permanent protection of the conserved natural area and undertakes management to maintain the habitat.  Under certain state and federal laws, development projects must provide mitigation to offset unavoidable impacts to the environment.  Approved mitigation or conservation banks fulfill these compensatory requirements through the purchase of credits.  Purchasing mitigation credits transfers the buyer’s obligation to a conservation bank in perpetuity.
