Recycling Land

“As a land company, I think our ultimate goal is to recycle the land that we use and touch,” said Larry Lao, Project Manager for our Reliance II reclamation project near Los Angeles. We understand that mining is not a permanent use for land. After mining is complete, we reclaim the property for a variety of purposes, including natural restoration and economic development.

Jaguar Painting Contest

Every year, our Mexico operation – Sac-Tun – partners with Instituto Playa del Carmen de La Salle school to sponsor a student art jaguar painting contest to foster interest and respect for these majestic animals. We founded the school in 1989 as the first bilingual school in the Mayan Riviera. Today, the school educates more than 540 students each year. Check out some of this year’s winners!

Spirit Rock Donation

Several years ago, our Azusa Quarry team donated a “spirit rock” to Mountain View Elementary School near Los Angeles. When the school permanently closed, Mr. Stamatis, a beloved former teacher, requested that the rock be moved to his home to remind him of his years of teaching. We partnered with Anglemyer Crane Rental to move and install the rock to thank him for his service to the community.

“Conservation and Community Through Site-Specific Reclamation”

Creating new opportunities for habitat creation and connectivity. Thank you Wildlife Habitat Council for featuring our Azusa Quarry (near Los Angeles) in your “Conservation and Community Through Site-Specific Reclamation” whitepaper. We’re reclaiming half of the site as a habitat for native wildlife like the western fence lizard, California scrub jay, California quail and desert cottontail and improving aesthetics for the surrounding community. Great work Team Azusa! Learn more: https://bit.ly/3pSn7Ng
