A New Canine Friend

The Sahuarita Police Department, near our Black Angus facility in Arizona, recently added a new member to their team: Smiley, a police comfort dog. The Black Angus team made a donation to help make this adoption possible. Check out the pawprint adorned cake the team dropped off to welcome Smiley to the force.

A little dog with a passion for safety.

Meet Millie, a dog with quite the resume. In addition to being a certified therapy, reading assistance and hunting dog, she is also the official Work Zone Safety Dog for the Associated General Contractors of America.

We’ve got spirit, how about you?

Our Pineville Quarry team in North Carolina delivered a spirit rock to South Academy of International Languages. Students and teachers alike are looking forward to the first day of school when the rock will be painted to illustrate the pride of the school and community. We can’t wait to see the results!

Partnering to protect a storied stream

Our Pennsylvania team joined a coalition of local organizations and state agencies to preserve 58 acres of land straddling Conewago Creek in Butler Township. Our goal is to provide the community greater access to this local natural gem.

Our Alabama team sent an ice cream truck to each of our facilities across the entire state as a thank you for all their hard work this summer.

6th Street Viaduct

We’re proud be part of the team to complete the largest bridge project in the history of L.A. In partnership with our customer CEMEX USA, we began planning for the project in 2015. Our Durbin Sand facility has supplied over 30,000 tons of construction aggregates to produce 45,000 yards of concrete. Great work team!

Scholars on Site

Middle and High School students from Forsyth County Public Schools visited our Mideast Division Central Services for a Career Discovery Day. The students are part of the College Rocks program, the result of a partnership between Vulcan and Crosby Scholars, an organization that helps students in the County prepare for college admission and other post-secondary opportunities.

Congratulations to David “Tiny” Long, who served in several roles during his tenure, most recently operating a rock breaker. He started at our City Quarry, which was reclaimed and transformed into Ijams Nature Center in Knoxville. Tiny, your wisdom will be missed in a “big” way!

Pathways and Partnerships

Our North Carolina team is partnering with the Blue Ridge Conservancy to create the Middle Fork Greenway between Boone and Blowing Rock, NC. Following the headwaters of the New River, the trail will provide a beautiful, preserved corridor while also serving as protection to the river it parallels.
